One of my clients hosts several events per month, all over the country. In hosting these events he faced challenges to getting the word out about them to all of his fans, and collecting RSVPs from them. Since he hosts at least one a week, he needed a solution that would automate publishing events to his fans, and collecting RSVPs. He also wanted the events to show on a map so fans could easily see where he was going next.
I evaluated several event plugins and found that most were too bloated and difficult to customize. They also locked in their users since they chose to add their own tables instead of using WordPress’ proven database schema.
So I programmed a custom plugin that made event publishing quick and easy. It followed WordPress best practices and saved event details in such a way that it was easy to for programmers to write custom templates for it. It used Formidable Forms, a plugin that the client was already using, to create RSVP forms for each event.
